Wilkie The Motor Racing Legend - Signed Book

1987. First Edition (Signed).

Signed Twice first with a dedication
'To George Pierce with best wishes from "Wilkie"
Brooklands 19 June 1988'

And signed again:
"Wilkie" Wilkinson 1988.

This book contains the memoirs of this most famous of racing managers told by Wilkie himself to Chris Jones and published in the 84th year of amazingly full life.
This is the story of a man with a passion for all things mechanical who almost drifted into Motor Racing & Motor Racing Legend. From a variety of jobs with Motors that needed 'a little work' to improve on the original. "Wilkie" got involved in the Racing scene when his employer's customer's became aware of his talent for extracting more from their cars capability than was ever expected. throughout the thirties, he worked with & for the likes of Ramponi, Eyston & the Evans Families Bellevue Garages. It was not just as a Wizard Tuner & Fettler that he was noted for, he was also capable of testing & racing the cars often faster & more successful than their owners! E.R.A's & M.G's became almost a speciality in the run up to War. The same applied in the early post war period with Jaguars & Scotland coming into play & the wonderful period during the fifties when the 'C' & 'D' types of Ecurie Ecosse reached their zenith at LeMans. After that came the equally wonderful period of B.R.M. in the sixties that saw the World Championship for G. Hill & the emergence of Jackie Stewart as a Grand Prix Winner. To the very end 'Wilkie' 'breathed' on historic racing engines for wealthy owners to gain an advantage on the circuit. A story covering well over half a century at the Sharp End of Motor Racing. The book runs to 214pp with many fine photos not previously seen.
